We had a number of computers come in this week, where customer’s had been impacted by Fake Microsoft Pop Ups that scared the users to phone in to “Microsoft”, stating that there computer was infected.
When they phoned in they allowed the scammers to access their computers.
We have seen this in the past, but the alarming thing that is happening now is the hackers gained access to the bank accounts and started transferring thousands of dollars from their accounts.
It is important that you do the following as soon as you can.
- Log in to your email account and setup two factor authentication (2FA)
- Log in to your google account and check your security settings. Setup 2FA and check your recovery phone number and email
- Also check what devices have recently signed in to your account and if any 3rd party apps have access
- Log in to your bank account and go to the security settings. Enable 2FA and setup alerts on your account for any withdrawals,
If you do get a POP Up – DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER AND DO NOT HIT THE “X” TO CLOSE IT DOWN
Simply do the following
1. CTRL SHIFT ESC
2. Highlight Browser
3. End Task
4. Disk Cleanup
If you are not sure, shut the computer down and bring it in to Impress Computers
